CAMBRIDGE BUSKERS AND STREET PERFORMERS FESTIVAL

Harmonica Workshop with Steve Lockwood, 11am - 12noon (beginners & intermediate) Harmonica phenomenon Steve Lockwood has joined forces with Millers Music, Cambridge to put on a workshop for harmonica players of all abilities including complete beginners. Steve isn't just a musician with a worldwide reputation, who has played with acts from Larry Adler, Chris Difford (Squeeze) and Screaming Lord Sutch to the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and recorded over 70 albums, he's also got a degree in harmonica playing from Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge and is a fully qualified teacher and lecturer with a PGCE.
The workshop is suitable for all levels of player including complete beginners and will help any harmonica player to start playing or improve their blues and pop and get the best out of this deceptively humble instrument. Steve's workshop is a rare opportunity for beginners, improvers and more competent players to gain instruction from a professional musician with 30 years of live performing forming the foundation of his teaching. Technical instruction is combined with hints and tips to make playing more musical and more fun. Website: http://www.steve.ms/

Banjo Workshop with Robin Gillan, 1pm – 2pm (For Guitarists Wanting to Learn Banjo)

CAMBRIDGE BUSKERS AND STREET PERFORMERS FESTIVAL

Robin Gillan has been active on the folk scene for over two decades and is now beginning to gain wider recognition. His music reflects timeless old field recordings of the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s and early commercial country recordings from the 1920’s. Described as a polymath musician, Robin delivers songs with power and sensitivity. Robin is adept at 5 string banjo, fiddle, harmonica, guitar and melodeon. Robin draws from the music of the British Isles and the USA. His playing has rawness, balanced by technical ability, producing an archaic sound rarely achieved in the 21st century.
Robin has produced one solo album and recorded with numerous bands and artists, recently working with folk legend, Tom Paley. He has been booked at many festivals and folk clubs over the years, and recently performed at the Cambridge Folk Festival. He also runs the Black Fen Folk Club in Cambridge. Robin has won several awards for his fiddle and banjo playing and has drawn the attention of such diverse musical figures as Reg Hall, Bruce Molsky, Yehudhi Menuhin and Noel Gallagher. http://www.robingillan.com

Sunday 14th June

Mandolin Workshop with Daniel Nestlerode 12noon – 1pm (For Guitarists Wanting to Learn Mandolin)

CAMBRIDGE BUSKERS AND STREET PERFORMERS FESTIVAL

Born in Pennsylvania, seasoned in California, Daniel Nestlerode is now based in Cambridge. His engaging manner, wonderful voice, and skill on the mandolin make him a favourite guest from Cornwall to East Anglia. His CD “More Than a Little Guitar” has been played on radio stations from California to Caledonia.
During his early days in central Pennsylvania Daniel picked up the guitar, started writing music, and played in some local bands. Local success inspired Daniel to move to California in pursuit of a career in music. Inspired by his acquaintance with mandolinist/percussionist/raconteur, Joe Craven, Daniel began playing mandolin. He was hooked from the first moment, and in a few years made the mandolin his primary instrument.
You can catch Daniel in some of the UK's best folk clubs playing original songs, a variety of traditional folk songs, and more modern covers. http://www.nestlerode.co.uk/
